Highlighting Historical Romance with Andrea R. Cooper
When writing Viking Fire, I came across some interesting information that many people still aren’t aware of about the Vikings. The image of the horned helmet is wrong. As far as archeologist have discovered, no Vikings wore helmets (especially in battle or burials) that had horns on their helmets.
Viking women had more rights than other females of the time period. Women were able to manage the family’s finances, run the farm in their husband’s absence or as widows be landowners. Further, a Viking wife could divorce her husband. Her divorce also meant her husband had to pay her monetary compensation to ensure she had all the means to live as a single woman.
Many know that Vikings raided monasteries and
such, but they also created settlements like Dyflin now Dublin, Ireland. Which my novel Viking Fire takes place in Ireland.
There are way too many interesting Viking facts to list them all here but there are lots of articles and books on the subject of Viking life.
